For over 30 years Arrow­mont has welcomed Artists-in-Resi­dence (AIRs) to campus for an 11-month, self-directed resi­dency. This unique program provides 5 early-career artists the time, space and support needed to create new work, while actively partic­i­pat­ing in our robust commu­nity of artists, students and staff.

Nathaniel Newcomb is a wood­worker and current MFA student at Virginia Common­wealth Univer­sity. He lives and works in Rich­mond, VA.

The Sam and Alfreda Maloof Foun­da­tion presents Solomon­ica: A Series of Cabi­netsby San Diego-based wood artist Beston Barnett. Through intri­cate cabi­nets and smaller func­tional objects, Barnett explores the ways in which furni­ture can tell stories.

Olivia Van Oot is a wood­worker based in Port­land, Maine. She grad­u­ated from Maine College of Art & Design in the Wood­work­ing and Furni­ture Design program, complet­ing her Bach­e­lors in Fine Arts in 2024. Her work is a re-contex­­tu­al­iza­­­tion of the histor­i­cal conno­ta­tions of Amer­i­can Pieced Quilt patterns, center­ing around qual­i­ties of gendered mate­r­ial and craft practices.

TFS member Sam Shippee recently partic­i­pated in the Fall Field + Supply market, held each October at the Hutton Brick­yards in Kingston, NY. Earlier this year, Sam received a schol­ar­ship to attend FS25 in Syra­cuse, and his creative energy contin­ues to shine through his work as a furni­ture maker and wood­turner based in Pine Plains, NY.

TFS’ Exec­u­tive Direc­tor Monica Hampton was invited to speak to the board of direc­tors of the Fine Objects Society (FOS) during their first-anniver­sary members’ retreat in German­town, NY. Monica shared an overview of The Furni­ture Society’s history, current initia­tives, and strate­gic vision, high­light­ing oppor­tu­ni­ties for align­ment between the two organizations.

Congrat­u­la­tions to TFS member Morgan Hill. Her neck­lace, Smörgås­bord, was recently acquired by the Smith­son­ian Amer­i­can Art Museum through the gener­ous gift of Diane Charnov and museum purchase through the Windgate Foun­da­tion Living Artists Acqui­si­tions Fund, 2025.18
