October 29-November 52024

For the fourth year in a row, we are glad to partner with the Vermont Woodworking School, recognizing the importance of their students belonging to an organization that supports the field and community in which they have chosen to study.

For this October feature, we are highlighting VWS students in their third semester. In these classes, students gain a deep understanding of casework pieces. All students complete a chest of drawers using web-frame construction and hand-cut dovetail drawers, which can range in size from delicate pen chests to full-size dressers. This class is all about putting new skills to use on a challenging project, so there’s extra emphasis on preparation with working drawings and construction schedules, and students are required to track their work hours.

Jess Nelson

Jess is a Minnesota native currently taking classes at the Vermont Woodworking School. Relatively new to fine furniture making, they are enjoying every second of it! Their main focus has been building strong, built-to-last pieces with a flair for veneer art and figured wood.
