This design challenge was part of the Yestermorrow Woodworking Certification Program, Spring 2023 — design and build something using nothing but a single 5’x5’ sheet of Baltic Birch Plywood (plus fasteners such as screws, as needed).
Birdseye Maple, Hard Maple, Aromatic Red Cedar
/ 2023
29"×24"×18"
A multi-step staining and finishing process was applied to the hard maple and birds-eye maple of this drop-leaf table to give it an antique look, highlighting the curves and fluting of the turned legs and stretcher.
Inspired by a Grandfather Clock from the 1800s, this table-top cabinet features a door with an oval glass insert, a locking drawer, and two hidden compartments.
The live edge at the front of the tabletop compliments the sapwood running along the side aprons and on the upper edges of the legs. The drawer interior uses Aromatic Red Cedar.
