Community Conversation: Imagine the Possibilities: A Conversation Around Sustaining a Practice

Other

Friday, Jun 27 10:45 – 11:45 in Nancy Cantor Warehouse

This community oriented conversation is about what it means to build and sustain a practice. In this participative event, we welcome everyone’s input on alternative ways to build a business, practice or career in furniture and woodworking. We will also consider how we can broaden our definitions of success, and in which woodworking environments we have felt the most comfortable or fulfilled.

Solid career opportunities can feel few and far between right now. Let’s get together at this conference and talk through some different ideas — what are jobs that took you off the beaten track of what success might look like, redefined your goals in the field, or taught you something new about what woodworking might look like? What are some places and communities that changed how you relate to your work? Instead of focusing on the scarcity, we’re hosting a meetup where we can redefine what the goals might be. Maybe it’s working in a production shop, finding time outside of your 9 – 5 to make work, or juggling part time job opportunities with shop access. What are all the ways you’ve found to keep woodworking a part of your life?
