Michael Hurwitz

Michael Hurwitz has been making studio furniture since earning a BFA from Boston University's Program in Artisanry in 1979. Following this, he was Head of the Wood Department at University of the Arts, Philadelphia between 1985 and 1989. He has shown extensively, including several solo exhibitions at the Peter Joseph Gallery and Pritam and Eames Gallery in NY. His work is represented in several public collections including the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Massachusetts, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC, The Philadelphia Museum of Art, PA, and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY.

Michael Hurwitz is the recipient of many honors including three National Endowment for the Arts Visual Artist Fellowships, the Japan Foundation Fellowship, PEW Foundation in the Arts fellowship, Tiffany Foundation Award and a Montgomery Fellowship from Dartmouth College, New Hampshire.

Hurwitz was made a Fellow of the American Craft Council, and received the Masters of the Medium award from the Friends of the James Renwick Alliance as well as the Smithsonian Visionary Award.

He maintains a studio in Philadelphia, PA.
