Taking Place on the Campus of Loyola University

FS23: Making Spaces: How Place Shapes Production, Living, and Community

How the work of a maker can impact the spaces we inhabit: our homes, our communities

The places that most of us inhabit are made up of buildings, streets, spaces and landscape, and a community of users. The places in which we live, work, and play will influence the lives we lead, the opportunities available to us and our personal and communal happiness..and identity. But what impact do we, as individuals and as makers, have on place?

Join us in New Orleans as we explore the power of place and the power of making in the communities we create and work in. Together we will investigate the value we bring to communities as creative problem solvers and the impact that those places have on the businesses we run and the things we make. How can we harness the power of collaboration between place and maker for a greater good?

SLIDE WARS!

Think: Instagram in person, you’re narrating, in hyperspace”

Slide Wars” is a fun and informal get-together at FS conferences where attendees show digital images and talk about their work on the big screen to a large, mostly informal audience.

Mentor Sessions

Not just for students!

30-minute, one-on-one sessions providing an opportunity for makers to create a direct connection with a mentor of their choice.

Each day offers a different lineup of mentors.

This is a great opportunity for furniture makers and those running small businesses at any stage in their careers to discuss whatever topics are most pressing and relevant to their practice and business.
