The Furni­ture Society have part­nered with Arrow­mont, John C Camp­bell Folk School, Peters Valley, and Pocosin Arts to offer one schol­ar­ship and grant per part­ner­ing insti­tu­tion to attend a work­shop for the 2025 summer season.

Every scholarship/​granting oppor­tu­nity with our partner orga­ni­za­tions are differ­ent. Please make sure to review each oppor­tu­nity and require­ments before applying.

Appli­cants MUST be a current Furni­ture Society member to apply, accept the grant, and attend the workshop

DEAD­LINES:

  • Appli­ca­tions will be accepted start­ing Decem­ber 42024
  • Dead­line for all submis­sions: January 5, 2025
  • Winners will be noti­fied by January 272025
  • Appli­cant must accept no later than Febru­ary 32025

DETAILS:

  • Review the terms of all the grants offered in 2025. Every grant­ing oppor­tu­nity is differ­ent. All terms with our partner orga­ni­za­tions differ as well.
  • You must be a member of The Furni­ture Society, with the excep­tion of the Ander­son Ranch BIPOC grant. If you are apply­ing for the Ander­son Ranch grant, you can apply here.
  • Only serious appli­cants should apply. You must be able to take on the finan­cial and time commitment required.
  • All Grant winners will be selected through a jury process. Grant winners will be noti­fied by email on or before January 27, 2025 and will need to accept grant no later than Febru­ary 3, 2025 other­wise they will forfeit the oppor­tu­nity and the runner-up will be offered the grant opportunity.
  • Grant winners will be expected to submit a written report to the Furni­ture Society no later than Decem­ber 1, 2025, detail­ing their use of the Educa­tional Grant and the impact it had on their career and/​or the field of furni­ture. Reports must include images and a short narra­tive that might be used to promote the Educa­tional Grant program and the mission of the Furniture Society.
  • ELIGI­BIL­ITY REQUIREMENTS:
  • You must must be a currently enrolled member of The Furni­ture Society to apply and take part in the Arrow­mont, John C. Camp­bell, Peters Valley, and Pocosin grant oppor­tu­ni­ties. BECOME A MEMBER. Those who have received a grant from The Furni­ture Society in 2024 are NOT eligible. 
  • Partic­i­pants must be 18 years of age or older to apply.
  • To apply, your member profile must be updated with 3 or more pieces created in the last 5 years. 
  • You will be asked to submit a minimum of 6 images of your work by upload­ing them to your member profile page. These may be 6 images of 6 differ­ent pieces, or 3 pieces with 1 detail image per piece. Your member profile will hold up to 15 images, so more photos are encouraged.
  • If you’d like to be consid­ered for more than one grant, you must submit a sepa­rate appli­ca­tion and may only submit one appli­ca­tion per partnering organization. 
  • There will be one winner per grant and no one will win more than one grant per year.

PARTNER GRANT TERMS:

  • Arrow­mont School of Arts & Crafts: Full schol­ar­ship for a one-week work­shop, includ­ing basic work­shop tuition, housing, and meals. Appli­cant must be a Furni­ture Society member to apply.
    Grant recip­i­ent may opt to pay the differ­ence to upgrade their accom­mo­da­tions or tuition for specific work­shops, and are also respon­si­ble for travel expenses and art mate­r­ial fees asso­ci­ated with their work­shop. The Furni­ture Society offers $500 to recip­i­ent to help offset the cost of travel and mate­ri­als to be reim­bursed after the work­shop ends.

  • John C. Camp­bell Folk School: Full tuition for a 1‑week work­shop plus room and board. Addi­tional costs will be mate­r­ial fees for the class and travel (or if they choose to upgrade their housing tier). Appli­cant must be a Furni­ture Society member to apply. The room and board covered will be for Dormitory/​Double Room housing. Addi­tional costs to the grant recip­i­ent will include mate­r­ial fees for the class and travel (or if they choose to upgrade their housing tier). The Furni­ture Society offers $500 to recip­i­ent to help offset the cost of travel and mate­ri­als to be reim­bursed after the work­shop ends.

  • Peters Valley School of Craft: Full tuition for a 1‑week immer­sive class of the appli­can­t’s choice, in any medium, this includes lodging and meals. Travel and studio/​materials fees are the respon­si­bil­ity of the grant recip­i­ent. Appli­cant must be a Furni­ture Society member to apply. The Furni­ture Society offers $500 to recip­i­ent to help offset the cost of travel and mate­ri­als to be reim­bursed after the work­shop ends.

  • Pocosin Arts School of Fine Craft: Full schol­ar­ship for a one-week work­shop which includes work­shop tuition, housing (quad or double) and meals. This schol­ar­ship can only be applied to Summer 2025 on campus, in person work­shops in our wood studio. Grant recip­i­ent is respon­si­ble for travel expenses and material/​studio fees asso­ci­ated with their work­shop. Any housing upgrades are the finan­cial respon­si­bil­ity of the grant recip­i­ent. Appli­cants must be a Furni­ture Society member to apply. The Furni­ture Society offers $500 to recip­i­ent to help offset the cost of travel and mate­ri­als to be reim­bursed after the work­shop ends.

Where applic­a­ble, classes will be selected after the recip­i­ent has been chosen and are at the discre­tion of the part­ner­ing orga­ni­za­tion and subject to availability.
