
Collateral Cathedral
Forge-welded handguns, steel, wood, silver leaf, paint, 18k gold / 2019 12”× 2” × 5 ¾”Sculpture. The base of the cathedral is made of decommissioned handguns, forge-welded into a block. The body is white oak that has been painted and silver-leafed. The rose window is made from the ejector of a revolver, highlighted with an 18K gold rivet.

Stephen Yusko’s studio is located in Cleveland, OH, where he creates forged, machined and fabricated steel vessels, furniture and sculpture. Yusko has taught at several schools and universities, including Haystack School of Crafts (ME), Penland School of Crafts (NC), and SUNY Purchase, where he was a Windgate Artist-in-Residence; and served on the Board of Trustees for the Haystack School. He has exhibited his work widely including the Metal Museum (TN) and the Ruthin Craft Centre (Wales, UK) and has received three Ohio Arts Council Individual Artist Excellence Awards and a Cuyahoga County Creative Workforce Fellowship Award. Reliquary: Solitude 2021
Steel, glass, wood, silver-leaf, milk paint / 2017-2021 8 3/8” × 3 1/8” × 8”Vessel. After being damaged in 2020, I made changes to the structure inside the glass box to reflect the inspiration of the Marcel Breuer building design of the Cleveland Museum of Art.

The View from Here
Steel, glass, rubber hose / 2016 44” × 70” × 10”Sculpture. The forged, machined and fabricated steel trestles are inspired by bridge trestles and sawhorses. The upside-down houses are attached with rare-earth magnets and indexes with machined locator pins.

Intersection Table: Stainless Detour
Steel, 316 alloy stainless steel / 2014 21 ½” × 30 ¼” × 10”Side table. Inspired by the bridges over the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland. The front legs are inspired by concrete barriers that separate traffic.

Continental Divide

Sanctuary: Work
Steel, glass, wood, silver leaf / 2019 9 3/8” × 7 1/8” × 3 1/8”Vessel. The square and rectangular cut-outs spell ‘WORK’ in Morse code. This box pays homage to many of my favorite materials to work with…steel, wood, textured glass and silver-leaf.
