- About
Soo Joo, a graduate of Rhode Island School of Design’s BFA program (’19 Furniture Design), creates natural analogs that allow people living in the urban built environment to feel connected to nature. She identifies as a contemporary Korean artist, as she is heavily influenced by traditional Korean aesthetics based on the cultural value on living harmoniously with nature. Natural analogs are non-living objects that have natural forms or use natural materials. Her work ultimately aims to satisfy “biophilia,” which is the innate human desire to feel connected to nature, one that is rooted in evolutionary history.
