- About
Michael O. Moore designs and makes custom furniture and other items on Boston’s North Shore.
It didn’t start out that way. In his early work life he was writing about financiers among other things. His father, the Maine artist Robert Eric Moore, asked what he was writing about and he responded, “annuities,” his father just shook his head in disbelief.
On an extended business trip Michael spent a Saturday at the Art Institute of Chicago and came across a mesmerizing music stand by Wendell Castle. That event and his existing interest in furniture and woodworking eventually led him to become a maker.
And of course, a music stand had to follow too. The first was made for a daughter who plays the flute. He’s made many more and continues to explore the form.
Michael and his wife have three daughters and live in an 1680 farmhouse with attached barn and shop. When not drawing or making, he can often be found in the large vegetable garden that produces much of the families’ food.
