About

James Nelson has been practicing his craft in woodworking and furniture design for 9 years, and works out of his studio located in Woodinville, Washington. His fine woodworking pieces are created with the intent of holding the viewers gaze and engaging with their sense of touch. This is achieved through designing the piece with varying wood species to create a stunning and unique composition, as well as using a combination of different design styles, mediums, and techniques to bring fine detail and intricacies into the design. Light and shadow also play a large role in the experience of his work, which is always a considering factor in regard to their final form. James’ work is further influenced by his frequent time spent out in nature and wilderness, as well as through his architectural studies. Most recently, James has been focusing on creating his first cohesive collection of furniture for production.

Recently received a BA in Applied Design — Furniture Design & Woodworking, with a specialization in Interior and Architectural Design, from the School of Art + Design at San Diego State University. Currently an instructor of furniture design and woodworking at Pratt Fine Arts in Seattle.
