The Museum for Art in Wood presents Wood Pushers: Artists Take on Chess, a companion exhibition to Donna Dodson: Match of the Matriarchs that further explores the game’s sculptural possibilities. Featuring nine artists, the exhibition brings together playable wooden chess sets that vary in scale, form, and approach, reimagining familiar pieces while preserving the rules of play. Visitors can discover how wood’s versatility inspires artistic invention in works by Oswaldo Chinchilla Villacorta, Wharton Esherick, Rex Kalehoff, James Macdonald and Lucky Platt, Michael Mode, Anders Nienstaedt, and Mark Sfirri and Amy Forsyth.
