Designer/Maker

Kate Duncan Design Inc

Kate Duncan

It was as a pre-teen, in Junior High School that Kate Duncan (b. 1981, Canadian) was introduced to woodworking. Little did she know, that first shop class would be the beginning of an entire career in furniture making and design. Since her days in Jr. High, Duncan has dedicated over twenty years to honing her craft and developing her aesthetic. Nowadays, Duncan produces bespoke heirloom-quality furniture out of her Toronto studio with a small team of dedicated makers.

She still crafts every piece by hand, utilizing traditional joinery and manufacturing techniques. She selects each board that comes into the studio and only works with the most impressive suppliers, tanneries and foundries in North America. Duncan’s work is clean and contemporary, heavily influenced by Brutalist architecture, contemporary ballet forms and the fashion icons of the 70’s and 80’s. Her work has garnered much attention and is sought after by collectors and designers alike.
