Where’d You Get That?! w/Adam Manley

“Where’d You Get That?!” is a group conversation around the things we collect, carry with us, treasure, and obsess over. We are all lovers of objects, functional and non. Why do we cherish them? What makes them important to us? How do we preserve and utilize them based on that importance? This is a group activity, kind of like a Show-and-Tell. attendees are asked to bring one or two small objects (preferably handheld size) that are sentimental to us, with some connection to place. We all have them: a tchotchke we collected on vacation with family; a tool we were given when we attended a workshop; a little chunk of wood we picked up off the floor of our first shop; etc… I will start by first giving a very brief slideshow, framing what we are talking about, and then presenting an object of importance that I have in my own collection, that links me inextricably to a physical place. I will tell the story of that object: where it came from; how it came into my possession; how I now utilize or preserve it. Then, we will go around through the group and hear the stories of all who brought something. this is about stories, objects, and the links between ourselves, the world around us, and the things that hold those places near for us.
