Libby Schrum

Libby has developed an aesthetic that marries her taste for the modern with a reverence for the tradition of craft. In addition to creating custom furniture, she has built interiors for the luxury yacht industry and has taught for a number of years at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship. Libby is interested in the ways we make connections by doing the things we love. In addition to teaching adult education classes Libby opens her Camden studio to others, offering STUDIOcations - customized one-on-one experiential learning opportunities - in furniture making and design.

After growing up in Texas and earning a BA in Business/Kinesiology from Southwestern University, she discovered a love for furniture making during a 12 Week Intensive at CFC in 2001 and later earned an MFA in Furniture Design from Rhode Island School of Design. Having found her people, she returned to Maine to set up shop. Libby was the 2010 recipient of the John D. Mineck Fellowship and was a Maine Arts Commission 2025 Maine Artist Fellow.

Topics/Strengths:

Whether it’s setting up shop, trying to figure out what type of educational program is a good fit or finding ways to be true to your own voice while working on commission, Libby loves to engage with other makers trying to figure out their next steps in furniture making.
