John Dunnigan
Designer, maker, author, and educator

John Dunnigan’s career spans more than five decades as a designer, maker, educator, and writer. His work has been presented in more than 100 exhibitions and is held in collections including the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. At RISD, where he taught for 45 years, Dunnigan served on the faculty in Industrial Design, Interior Architecture, and Furniture Design and co-founded RISD’s Department of Furniture Design. He also served as Interim Dean of the Division of Architecture and Design, was a Mellon Fellow in the RISD Museum, and held the Schiller Family Endowed Chair in Furniture Design until 2025.
