Vance Bauman Sketches

While drawing is not my forte it does let me explore a wide range of ideas. Sketch models however allow me to visu­al­ize and explore the design of an actual object. In this chair example I used black tape to create voids in the seat of the chair. This was a fast process. I then moved to the full scale mock-up where I changed the seat to be coop­ered for comfort and played around with the leg profiles and finally filled in all the voids along the back of the seat. The mock up chair was pulled apart, pieces reshaped and reassem­bled numer­ous times which ulti­mately lead to a chair design and outcome that I am very proud of.
