Tuesday, January 14, 2025, 7 – 8pm

Wharton Esherick Museum’s Communications and Social Media Manager, Larissa Huff along with the Museum’s collections manager, Ethan Snyder, will be presenting on a peculiar 18th century dower chest that Wharton Esherick purchased and transformed in the early 1920s. This chest is a rare and unique example of antique furniture Wharton Esherick tinkered with during the early days of his career in wood. Larissa and Ethan will be discussing the long history of this object, how it bridged the gap between Esherick’s woodcuts and subsequent furniture making practice, and some of the peculiar joints in the chest that we’re led to believe may be one of Esherick’s earliest experimentations with cabinetry.
