Meredith Hart

Mered­ith’s path to the wood shop includes exten­sive educa­tion in design comple­mented with two years of hands-on skill build­ing. She began in the archi­tec­ture studio where she earned a bach­e­lors degree and acquired a great appre­ci­a­tion of design’s role in the feeling of comfort and iden­tity in a home. She has since grad­u­ated from the North Bennet Street School’s renowned furni­ture making program where she gained the skills neces­sary for build­ing high-quality, long-lasting furniture. 

Her design philos­o­phy goes beyond form-follows-func­tion and strives to harmo­nize the two aspects of a piece as much as possi­ble. Using time-tested joinery tech­niques and acute atten­tion to detail, Mered­ith strives to build furni­ture that feels natural and contem­po­rary while honor­ing and incor­po­rat­ing tradi­tional forms and innovations.

She currently lives in Carrboro, North Carolina and works in a coop­er­a­tive wood­shop in Chapel Hill.
