I live a number of intersecting lives. I design and build objects with wood, a journey that started in the wood shop at the Rhode Island School of Design over forty years ago. I also work to better understand the environmental and societal impacts of emerging technologies, such as nanotechnology, synthetic biology, and emerging information technologies, e.g. quantum computing. I split my time between western Massachusetts (where I have my wood working shop) and Berlin, Germany, where I am a Guest Researcher at the Weizenbaum Institute.
