11 mo. working residency focused on cross-disciplinary work involving technologies and making/craft at UNCA STEAM Studio in Asheville, NC. This fellowship is designed to support the integration of craft and design into studio practice.
This fellowship program will support a practitioner from Art, New Media, Computer Science or Engineering to undertake an 11 month working residency focused on cross-disciplinary work involving technologies and applications of making and craft at the STEAM Studio. This fellowship is specifically designed to support the integration of craft and design into studio practice in preparation for advanced studies and studio practice beyond the fellowship. Fellows will receive a stipend of $20,000 paid over the duration of the fellowship. The Fellow is expected to support STEAM Staff with studio projects, including assisting students from sculpture and engineering 20 hours/week. This work benefits the studio and gives the Fellow training and experience with the tools and equipment at STEAM. The Fellow will also receive ongoing support from the STEAM Studio Staff and will be required to complete an exhibition/public presentation at the end of fellowship.
