This posi­tion is located in Wash­ing­ton, D.C.

This is super­vi­sory work over­see­ing cabinet shop services includ­ing furni­ture design, build, and repair, and picture framing services. Work includes assign­ing, super­vis­ing and review­ing final work prod­ucts from the Cabinet Shop. Consid­er­able time is spent provid­ing over­sight to the design and fabri­ca­tion of cabi­netry work for Senate offices.

Payband 9: $85,980 — $128,964

NATURE OF WORK

This is super­vi­sory work over­see­ing cabinet shop services includ­ing furni­ture design, build, and repair, and picture framing services. Work includes assign­ing, super­vis­ing and review­ing final work prod­ucts from the Cabinet Shop. Consid­er­able time is spent provid­ing over­sight to the design and fabri­ca­tion of cabi­netry work for Senate offices. Work is performed under the general super­vi­sion of the Furnish­ings Manager, who reviews work for time­li­ness and effi­ciency of services as well as customer satisfaction.

EXAM­PLES OF WORK

● Provides lead­er­ship to shop staff, approves sched­ules, defines employee objec­tives, provides regular perfor­mance feed­back to staff includ­ing quar­terly reviews, writes perfor­mance appraisals and makes recom­men­da­tions for hiring.

● Dissem­i­nates infor­ma­tion to staff.

● Over­sees the plan­ning, assign­ing, prior­i­tiz­ing, and review­ing the work of skilled and semi-skilled staff.

● Provides cost data for production.

● Ensures adequate inven­tory of mate­ri­als and supplies; places orders and moni­tors budget expenditures.

● Ensures all equip­ment in the shop is func­tion­ing well and that work performed is done with a focus onsafety.

● Works as a back-up to the Cabinet Designer by meeting with customers to develop require­ments, takings space measure­ments, and creat­ing computer-aided furni­ture schematic draw­ings on the computer outlin­ing desired features and measurements.

● Works in conjunc­tion with Furnish­ings to assist in deter­min­ing work­space solu­tions; discusses furni­ture features, wood pref­er­ences, design and special needs requests for Senate offices in the Capitol.

● Devel­ops proce­dures to review final prod­ucts for quality control and adher­ence to work order requests.

● May assist in shop operations.

PHYS­I­CAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work requires extended periods of bending, stoop­ing, and reach­ing to take measure­ments and extended periods of computer work. Work includes expo­sure to chem­i­cals, dust, noise, and fumes in the shop environment.

MINIMUM QUAL­I­FI­CA­TIONS

Work requires a high school diploma (or GED), and three to five years increas­ingly respon­si­ble expe­ri­ence in a custom cabinet shop includ­ing at least one year of super­vi­sory expe­ri­ence; or any equiv­a­lent combi­na­tion of educa­tion and expe­ri­ence that provides the follow­ing knowl­edge, abil­i­ties and skills:

● Knowl­edge of plan­ning, assign­ing, review­ing, and coor­di­nat­ing the work of skilled and semi-skilled person­nel in various shops.

● Knowl­edge of wood­work­ing and finish­ing tech­niques, and wood types and shop capacity.

● Skill in defin­ing employee objec­tives, provid­ing feed­back and writing performance appraisals.

● Skill in project management.

● Skill in budget devel­op­ment and forecasting.

● Ability to commu­ni­cate well verbally and in writing.

● Ability to plan, prior­i­tize, and coor­di­nate work efforts.

● Ability to use a computer to create schemat­ics of furni­ture designs in AutoCAD and assist in engi­neer­ing the Computer Numeric Control (CNC) machine
