Work includes assigning, supervising and reviewing final work products from the Cabinet Shop. Considerable time is spent providing oversight to the design and fabrication of cabinetry work for Senate offices.
Payband 9: $85,980 — $128,964
NATURE OF WORK
This is supervisory work overseeing cabinet shop services including furniture design, build, and repair, and picture framing services. Work includes assigning, supervising and reviewing final work products from the Cabinet Shop. Considerable time is spent providing oversight to the design and fabrication of cabinetry work for Senate offices. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Furnishings Manager, who reviews work for timeliness and efficiency of services as well as customer satisfaction.
EXAMPLES OF WORK

● Provides leadership to shop staff, approves schedules, defines employee objectives, provides regular performance feedback to staff including quarterly reviews, writes performance appraisals and makes recommendations for hiring.
● Disseminates information to staff.
● Oversees the planning, assigning, prioritizing, and reviewing the work of skilled and semi-skilled staff.
● Provides cost data for production.
● Ensures adequate inventory of materials and supplies; places orders and monitors budget expenditures.
● Ensures all equipment in the shop is functioning well and that work performed is done with a focus onsafety.
● Works as a back-up to the Cabinet Designer by meeting with customers to develop requirements, takings space measurements, and creating computer-aided furniture schematic drawings on the computer outlining desired features and measurements.
● Works in conjunction with Furnishings to assist in determining workspace solutions; discusses furniture features, wood preferences, design and special needs requests for Senate offices in the Capitol.
● Develops procedures to review final products for quality control and adherence to work order requests.
● May assist in shop operations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work requires extended periods of bending, stooping, and reaching to take measurements and extended periods of computer work. Work includes exposure to chemicals, dust, noise, and fumes in the shop environment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Work requires a high school diploma (or GED), and three to five years increasingly responsible experience in a custom cabinet shop including at least one year of supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the following knowledge, abilities and skills:
● Knowledge of planning, assigning, reviewing, and coordinating the work of skilled and semi-skilled personnel in various shops.
● Knowledge of woodworking and finishing techniques, and wood types and shop capacity.
● Skill in defining employee objectives, providing feedback and writing performance appraisals.
● Skill in project management.
● Skill in budget development and forecasting.
● Ability to communicate well verbally and in writing.
● Ability to plan, prioritize, and coordinate work efforts.
● Ability to use a computer to create schematics of furniture designs in AutoCAD and assist in engineering the Computer Numeric Control (CNC) machine
