About

Kayla Della-Nebbia is a multidisciplinary artist from the traditional territories of the Erie, Neutral, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee and Mississaugas, known as Hamilton, Ontario. She works primarily in wood and glass, creating functional pieces of furniture and blown and cast glass objects.

Kayla uses colour and pattern to create unique pieces. In wood, she often uses pressure dyed veneers and marquetry techniques to create colourful pieces of furniture. She is inspired by traditional techniques such as quilting, and Métis beadwork.

She is inspired by the fluid nature of glass and the unexpected results that occur when working with hot glass. She often reuses pieces of colour from past projects to create unexpected results. Each piece of glassware is unique. Her glassware is intended to use colour to bring a sense of joy and playfulness into the home.

Kayla is currently in her 3rd year at Sheridan College, in the Craft and Design program. She is also a TA in the Furniture Studio, as well as a summer employee of the studio, working side by side with the studio technician to maintain machinery and create and improve systems in the shop.
