WOOD RINGS with Daniel DiCaprio Pocosin Arts

This course will intro­duce students to the basics of wood carving and its appli­ca­tions for jewelry. Wood rings as the subject are an excel­lent small-scale object that present many vari­a­tions while explor­ing a range of carving tech­niques. After carving we will exper­i­ment with differ­ent surface embell­ish­ments that can incor­po­rate a range of alter­na­tive media. Students can expect to come away with an under­stand­ing of wood­work­ing prop­er­ties, the neces­sary tools for small-scale carving, and addi­tional ways to combine wood and jewelry techniques.
