In this class, we will start with a fresh branch and turn it into a useful and decorative lidded container using a few basic hand tools and a couple pieces of dry hardwood. The beauty of these boxes is the simplicity of their construction. After the first one, you’ll be able to do them in an afternoon, or maybe a couple in a day. We will look at wood and tool selection, work holding possibilities, and finish options. We will make some time to talk a bit about sharpening tools, and if time allows about making some specialty tools. Students can expect to complete one or two boxes during the class, depending on how much work time they have available outside of the online hours. This class is suitable for beginners up through intermediate skill levels.

The capacity for this class is 12 students. This class is presented in collaboration with the John C. Campbell Folk School. There will be an optional Orientation and Closing Ceremony hosted from the Folk School campus that students can attend online.
