Boston’s Society of Arts + Crafts announced that Sophie Glenn is the 2022 recip­i­ent of the John D. Mineck Fellow­ship, a high-profile award with an unre­stricted $25,000 prize given annu­ally to an early-career furniture artist.

Every two years, artists from around the world come together in North­ern Saskatchewan, Canada to share ideas, tech­niques, and collab­o­rate on projects. Artists at all levels in their career are encour­aged to get creative, think outside of their tradi­tional prac­tice, and exper­i­ment with a variety of other mediums — metal­work­ing, wood­work­ing, and glass, to name a few.

The Furni­ture Society welcomes incom­ing Board Pres­i­dent, Karen Ernst and Vice Pres­i­dent, Kathryn Hall.

We are thrilled to have these two incred­i­ble indi­vid­u­als step­ping into these roles and look forward to working with them in contin­u­ing to steer the course for The Furniture Society.

The Furni­ture Society extends a heart­felt thanks to outgo­ing Pres­i­dent, Adam Manley, for his lead­er­ship of the Board of Directors. 

We are grate­ful for his dedi­cated service, thought­ful guid­ance, and sense of humor. Adam will remain on the Exec­u­tive Commit­tee for the fore­see­able future and we look forward to contin­u­ing our work with him at this level.

D Wood was awarded The Furni­ture Soci­ety’s Educa­tional Grant in 2020. Due to the pandemic, the award was extended through 2021 and she was able to attend Arrow­mont for the writer’s residency.

Each year the James Renwick Alliance recog­nizes Masters of the Medium in five fields of endeavor: outstand­ing artists in the fields of ceram­ics, wood, glass, metals, and fiber. This pres­ti­gious bien­nial award given by the JRA Craft has honored some of the most signif­i­cant artists in American Craft.

Rachel David, black­smith, sculp­tor, designer, and TFS member, is the winner of the 2021 James Renwick Alliance for Craft Chrysalis Award. David’s inno­v­a­tive forging of metal into shapes and forms refer­enc­ing bodies and land­scapes provides an unex­pected unique, provoca­tive commen­tary on social and envi­ron­men­tal justice issues.

Aspen Golann has been awarded this years pres­ti­gious John D. Mineck Furni­ture Fellowship Award.
