The Award of Distinction recognizes and celebrates outstanding achievement and long-standing commitment by an individual or institution to the advancement of the art of furniture making. The Award is intended to strengthen the fabric of the Furniture Society’s community by naming and celebrating its aesthetic and intellectual leaders.

Meet our 2020 Award of Distinction Jurors

In November 2018, the Furniture Society Board of Trustees appointed Wendy Maruyama chair of the Award of Distinction program. The assistant chair will be the current President of the Furniture Society, Bart Niswonger. The three jurors for the 2020 Award deliberations selected by Maruyama are Andy Buck, Kathryn Hall and Craig Nutt. Due to the knowledge each has of the contemporary furniture making scene, their differing aesthetic approaches to object making and geographic spread, the deliberations should be substantive, fair, lively and representative of a vital slice of the Furniture Society community.

Here are two ways you can get involved right now:

Award funds received in excess of the direct program costs will be made available to the Furniture Society’s Educational Grants program, which offers essential financial assistance to Society members for professional development or projects of an educational nature.
