John Michael Kohler Art Center and Lynden Sculpture Garden Tour

This tour has been canceled. We are disappointed too.

This tour will take you to two magical places;

The Lynden Sculpture Garden offers a unique experience of art in nature through its collection of more than 50 monumental sculptures sited across 40 acres of park, lake and woodland.

This tour will feature a conversation with Fo Wilson about her onsite installation Eliza's Peculiar Cabinet of Curiosities. The full-scale structure is both wunderkammer and slave cabin; it imagines what a 19th-century woman of African descent might have collected, catalogued and stowed in her living quarters. What did she find curious about the objects and culture of her European captors? Southern plantation life? The natural world around her? Informed by historical research, but represented in the past, present and future simultaneously, Eliza--animated by an Afro-Futurist vision that embodies a hopeful version of an African American future--presents an imagined collection of found and original objects, furnishings and artifacts.

A nationally acclaimed visual and performing arts complex, the John Michael Kohler Arts Center is devoted to innovative explorations in contemporary art. Its exhibitions focus on a wide range of art forms, with particular emphasis on artist-built environments, installation art, ongoing folk traditions, and the work of self-taught artists. The performing arts include dance, music, and theatre.

Their mission is to encourage and support innovative explorations in the arts and to foster a creative exchange between artists and a broad public that will help realize the power of the arts to inspire and transform our world.

The Furniture Society tour group will enjoy an included boxed lunch from the ARTcafe and receive a tour of the galleries led by curator Faythe Levine.
