Please note that anyone who applies for a scholarship, and does not receive one, will receive a code to register for the conference at early bird pricing.
Schooner Scholarships
Schooner Scholarships Available for BIPOC, Non-Binary, and Women Makers for The Furniture Society’s Conference FS25: You are HERE: Makers, Place & Impact taking place June 26 – 28, 2025 in Syracuse, NY

Visionary Supporter
The Furniture Society is pleased to have received funding from The Schooner Foundation in support of our Professional Development Program and the sponsorship of up to twenty individual scholarships for BIPOC, Non-Binary, and women makers to attend the lectures, portfolio reviews, and mentorship sessions. This support provides dynamic conference programming as well as direct access to professional development tools and opportunities for underrepresented makers in the field.
The Schooner Foundation is generously supporting:
2 full conference scholarships — 1 student, 1 professional. Full scholarships include travel, lodging, conference waiver, $250 stipend, and 1‑year membership to The Furniture Society.
20 partial scholarships — 10 student and 10 professional. Scholarship includes conference pass and a 1‑year membership to The Furniture Society.
All Schooner Scholarships include access to all conference presentations, demonstrations, professional development, and events.
Before you apply:
You acknowledge that if you are awarded a conference scholarship, you will attend the entire conference June 26 – 28. 2025.
NOTE: Partial scholarship recipients: you are responsible for your own travel, lodging, and meals, and are required to volunteer 4 hours, and must submit a report no later than July 31, 2025. Reports should include a testimonial, 3 – 5 images, a report on your experience, and an impact statement for the funder.
The Specifics:
The professional development programming consists of three focused components. Each will offer accessible information for attendees on a variety of industry-related topics as well as opportunities to network with others in the furniture making field.
Programs investigating various areas of expertise in practical, business, and administrative areas. These sessions include topics such as resume writing, placing bids, invoicing, bookkeeping, applying for grants, and more.
The portfolio reviews feature 25 minute, one-on-one sessions and will provide makers a chance to receive critiques on their work from leaders in the field, something rare and valuable for those working in the isolation of the studio.
The mentoring sessions will feature 25 minute, one-on-one sessions and will provide an opportunity for makers to create a direct connection with a mentor of their choice.

This support provides dynamic conference programming as well as direct access to professional development tools and opportunities for underrepresented makers in the field.
The Maxwell Hanrahan Foundation is generously supporting:
2 full conference scholarships — 1 student, 1 professional. Full scholarships include travel, lodging, conference waiver, $250 stipend
