Full and partial schol­ar­ships avail­able through the generos­ity of the Schooner Foun­da­tion and the Maxwell Hanrahan Foundation

Please note that anyone who applies for a scholarship, and does not receive one, will receive a code to register for the conference at early bird pricing.

Schooner Scholarships Available for BIPOC, Non-Binary, and Women Makers for The Furniture Society’s Conference FS25: You are HERE: Makers, Place & Impact taking place June 26 – 28, 2025 in Syracuse, NY

Vision­ary Supporter

The Furni­ture Society is pleased to have received funding from The Schooner Foun­da­tion in support of our Profes­sional Devel­op­ment Program and the spon­sor­ship of up to twenty indi­vid­ual schol­ar­ships for BIPOC, Non-Binary, and women makers to attend the lectures, port­fo­lio reviews, and mentor­ship sessions. This support provides dynamic confer­ence program­ming as well as direct access to profes­sional devel­op­ment tools and oppor­tu­ni­ties for under­rep­re­sented makers in the field.

The Schooner Foun­da­tion is generously supporting:

  • 2 full confer­ence schol­ar­ships — 1 student, 1 profes­sional. Full schol­ar­ships include travel, lodging, confer­ence waiver, $250 stipend, and 1‑year member­ship to The Furniture Society.

  • 20 partial schol­ar­ships — 10 student and 10 profes­sional. Schol­ar­ship includes confer­ence pass and a 1‑year member­ship to The Furniture Society.

All Schooner Schol­ar­ships include access to all confer­ence presen­ta­tions, demon­stra­tions, profes­sional devel­op­ment, and events.

Before you apply:

You acknowl­edge that if you are awarded a confer­ence schol­ar­ship, you will attend the entire confer­ence June 26 – 282025

NOTE: Partial schol­ar­ship recip­i­ents: you are respon­si­ble for your own travel, lodging, and meals, and are required to volun­teer 4 hours, and must submit a report no later than July 31, 2025. Reports should include a testi­mo­nial, 3 – 5 images, a report on your expe­ri­ence, and an impact state­ment for the funder.

The Specifics:

The profes­sional devel­op­ment program­ming consists of three focused compo­nents. Each will offer acces­si­ble infor­ma­tion for atten­dees on a variety of indus­try-related topics as well as oppor­tu­ni­ties to network with others in the furni­ture making field.

  1. Programs inves­ti­gat­ing various areas of exper­tise in prac­ti­cal, busi­ness, and admin­is­tra­tive areas. These sessions include topics such as resume writing, placing bids, invoic­ing, book­keep­ing, apply­ing for grants, and more.

  2. The port­fo­lio reviews feature 25 minute, one-on-one sessions and will provide makers a chance to receive critiques on their work from leaders in the field, some­thing rare and valu­able for those working in the isola­tion of the studio.

  3. The mentor­ing sessions will feature 25 minute, one-on-one sessions and will provide an oppor­tu­nity for makers to create a direct connec­tion with a mentor of their choice.
