- About
Bio: TJ Krivanec has lived in Richmond VA his whole life. Early experiences in historic renovation led to interests of wood as a medium for furniture and sculpture. He earned a BFA in the Craft & Material Studies program from VCU, mostly exploring processes involved with fine woodworking and glassmaking. He has installed exhibitions as a preparator for Hamiltonian Gallery, The Anderson, The Eric Schindler Gallery, and The Science Museum of VA. He sees wood as a timeless teaching tool- from the lifecycle of the tree itself, the challenges of fabricating for specific demands, to personal explorations.
Statement: I am interested in understanding wood’s undeniable origin as tree, and through that process further contemplate the layers of fakeness and simulation we are surrounded by in post industrial society. I am interested in how nature feels strange and exotic as our broken systems attempt to become automated.
