The Furniture Society Booth @ ICFF 2017

We’re proud to be back again at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair. We’ll be showcasing the work of four gifted makers.

  • Annie Evelyn http://annieevelyn.com Penland, NC
    Annie Evelyn is a furniture maker who makes alternatively upholstered chairs from hard materials like wood, metal, and cement. In 2011 she received a Windgate furniture residency at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Center for Turning and Furniture Design. Her work has been featured on the cover of American Craft magazine and published in Laura Housely’s book, The Independent Design Guide. Evelyn is currently in her third year as an artist in residence at the Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina and most recently was awarded The John D. Mineck Furniture Fellowship.
  • Topher Gent http://tophergent.com Providence, RI
    Topher is an artist, designer, and craftsman who creates one-of-a-kind objects and furniture as meditations on his own observations and experiences. With steel as a primary medium, Topher implements a sensitive balance of traditional craft and modern technology, allowing him to explore these ideas and his personal relationship to making.
  • Asher Israelow http://www.asherisraelow.com Hudson, NY, and Brooklyn, NY
    A New York City native, Asher currently works in the Hudson Valley, designing buildings and building furniture. Drawing on his training as an architect and a love of lore, Asher designs work for the modern explorer. His studio is a workshop specializing in unique and handcrafted objects, producing original products and custom designs for the discerning collector, with an affinity for heritage techniques and heirloom quality. Each piece narrates the story of its materials, creating innovative and precise designs with a timeless aesthetic.
  • Heide Martin http://www.heidemartin.com Appleton, ME
    Heide is a designer-maker who creates furniture and housewares with simple, high quality materials. Her designs reflect a Shaker-esque dedication to honest functionality, and she strives for unique yet well-balanced form. She works in native hardwoods as well as leather, fiber, and metals.
    Heide resides and works in coastal Maine with her husband on a small, wooded homestead. She came to furniture design from a career in landscape architecture and urban planning in the Pacific Northwest. Her design work has been exhibited and published in Maine, Washington, Switzerland, England, Spain, Japan, and the Netherlands.

Furniture Society Meet & Greet this Saturday in NYC

It's New York Design Week, and that means we have a booth at ICFF, and we're having a party at Toad Hall!

Come have a beer and talk shop this Saturday, May 14th, 6-8PM at Toad Hall, 57 Grand St, Soho. Walk all the way through to the back!toadhall

This year, we toast and celebrate our four exceptional, featured furniture makers:

  • Jason Schneider jasonschneiderfurniture.com New Jersey
    Jason creates beautiful objects with unique materials. Most recently, he has focused corrugated cardboard, from which he creates, unique and beautiful furniture, sculpture and two-dimensional artwork.
  • Libby Schrum libbyschrum.com Camden, Maine
    Libby makes remarkable furniture designed with balance: the balance of simplicity and aesthetics, craft and design, hand work and machine processes.
  • Woodsport woodsport.net Minneapolis, Minnesota
    Scott McGlasson combines traditional techniques and an experimental approach to craft original, heirloom quality furniture by hand.
  • Semigood www.semigoods.com Seattle, Washington
    Thom Jones and Brendan Callahan design and execute distinctive furniture, often combining hardwoods and steel to create memorable pieces.

The Furniture Society at The Philadelphia Furniture Fair

This weekend, The Furniture Society will be showing member work at The 23rd Street Armory in Philadelphia, for the 22nd annual Philadelphia Furniture Show. We have an exciting weekend planned.

The Philadelphia Furniture Show showcases exceptional artisan quality furniture and is the longest running exhibition of its kind. Now in its 22nd year, the show continues to set the bar for the finest heirloom handmade furniture and furnishings in the United States.

Show Times:

Preview: April 8th 6-9pm
Saturday: 10am-6pm
Sunday : 10am-pm

Furniture Society Social Hour and Raffle: Saturday at 4pm-6pm
Free Admission to Furniture Society Members during our social hour! Raffle prizes include: a pass to our 20th Anniversary Conference in Philadelphia this June and several small handmade pieces by Furniture Society members!

Regional Event at SOFA in Chicago

Don't miss our regional event 
Saturday evening November 7, 2015
7pm - 9pm at O'Callaghans near Navy Pier.

The evening will include billiards, drinks, and a fundraising raffle with some pretty amazing prizes (like this beautiful chair by Varian Designs)

Regional Event in San Diego, CA

Wendy M. headshot2008 Award of Distinction Honoree, Wendy Maruyama, is retiring from San Diego State University and we invite you to celebrate her 35 years of teaching.

Wendy wants her Furniture Society friends to help her celebrate on the evening of October 10, 2015 at her studio at Glashaus in San Diego. A big crowd from wide and far and good fun are expected.

We're exited to have a presence at SOFA Chicago again this year! Join us for a regional event in the windy city on the Saturday evening of the show.

The Furniture Society Artist/Designer Meet & Greet @ ICFF

Join us for a social evening at Toad Hall, a "charming bar that beckons on a chilly winter evening--anytime you want to step off the Soho street and into a warm, well-lighted place," according to New York Magazine.

The evening will include a fundraising raffle. Proceeds will benefit the various programs and efforts of the Furniture Society. Raffle tickets will be sold for $10 each and prizes include FS books, a free symposium pass, and handmade objects.
You must be present to win.

Open to Furniture Society members, family, friends and furniture enthusiasts.
