FS18 – Call for Proposals

The Furniture Society presents:

Annual Conference: June 13th - 16th, 2018

LOCATION: Dog Patch Studios, San Francisco, CA

We invite proposals for panel discussions, presentations, workshops, and demonstrations on the theme of the conference.

Whether it's the deployment of new technologies, the blur between "art", "craftsmanship" and "design", the rapid evolution of marketplace and business models, or shifts in consumer preference and taste, we find ourselves in a time of rapid change that is shaping and altering the context for making and designing furniture and objects. The Furniture Society's conference, Nexus, explores the many ways in which Art, Design, Craftsmanship and Technology connect, compete, crossover, and blend together in contemporary furniture and object making. We are approaching this theme with an eye on the future and uncovering the opportunities and potentials within these changes.

Deadline for submissions: January 15th, 2018

Each conference track will consist of panel discussions, presentations, workshops and demonstrations. Keeping in mind the theme of the conference "Nexus", we encourage presentations on integration efforts between the disciplines, makers and marketers, buyers, sellers, and creators, the digital and the analog worlds, or any other points of intersection that provoke compelling new conversations.

Your proposal should include the following:

  • Name (as you wish it to appear in the program brochure and marketing materials)
  • Headshot
  • Address
  • Email / Phone / Website
  • A written proposal (max 500 words) including a title and description of the proposed presentation, discussion, or demonstration. If you are proposing a panel discussion, please include information about your fellow panelists. Be as detailed and specific as possible.
  • If you wish to include visuals in your proposal, provide them as jpg's attached to an email or as a link to an appropriate website. Maximum size 4mb per email.
