Profile of Brandy Clements

Fourth generation chair caner on a mission to revive a threatened craft. After weaving part time for five years, my husband and I opened a shop in the River Arts District. Five years later we realized that not only were we total chair nerds, but that we had to take drastic measures to perpetuate the "dying art" of chair caning. We opened Silver River Center for Chair Caning in 2015, the nation's only chair caning school and museum. Dave and I are members of The SeatWeavers Guild, the Southern Highland Craft Guild, and the River Arts District Artists. We have woven thousands of chair seats and demonstrate/teach regularly. We restore cane (machine & laced), rush (natural & paper), splint (reed, binder cane, vinyl & bark), Shaker Tape, and Danish Cord.
