Profile of Jim Zink

I build and design top contemporary furniture to emphasize the innate beauty of natural wood grains and markings. Manipulating colors and patterns in wood to complement lines, curves, and surfaces in furniture comes intuitively to me. Finding exceptional lumber for my pieces is exciting and is also something that I take great interest and pride in doing. I use the best boards from one tree so that my pieces have consistency. What gives me inspiration? I find inspiration from the wood itself. The markings are so interesting and aesthetic that displaying them as best possible becomes a welcomed challenge. Woods outside my New Hampshire studio make finding inspiration almost effortless. I relax with the tranquility of my environment and surrounding lakes, with wildlife, and mountains. This setting fosters the patience and commitment needed for impeccable craftsmanship. Getting insight into creating aesthetically beautiful yet useful furniture is easier in such an idyllic setting. I love what I do, so I can’t call it “work.” To this day, my excitement continues as I design and build furniture. Living like this allows me to produce the best products possible.
